The History of Olympia(D)

In January of 1979, Olympiad Gymnastic Training Centers began with an idea, a hope and a great deal of enthusiasm. Over the course of the last 40 years, Olympiad has opened centers throughout the St. Louis metro area to provide gymnastics services as well as other special programs to children of all ages. Today Olympiad is the one of the largest gymnastic training center in the United States.

1979 to 1980 Sixteen youngsters began gymnastic instruction at the original Olympiad gym in North County in 1979. The same month a second site in West County was introduced which immediately prospered. The preschool program became recognized as the finest in the St. Louis area. The competitive Team structure increased to 60 girls and the total enrollment by the summer of 1981 was 480 students.

1983 With the acquisition of an established club in St. Charles in 1983, Olympiad inherited another success and molded a fine program into a better one. This center became known as Olympiad Olde Towne. 1985 December of 1985 saw further development when Olympiad Chesterfield opened its doors to help serve the west county area.

1987 Spirit Elite was formed and provided for over 100 cheerleaders.

1990 Olympiad Ellisville opened and within its first year became the fastest growing program.

1991 Olympiad Gymnastics made its first appearance in a Busch Stadium pre-game exhibition for the St. Louis Cardinals. Over 1,000 volunteers and students, ages 3 – teen, took the field in a dramatic display of the sport of gymnastics.

1992-1993 With the increasing development of higher skill levels, the need for a new training center became immanent. In 1992 Olympiad supported the birth of “Team Central”, a non-profit corporation designed to train athletes who aspire to compete on a national level. Olympiad initiated the Team Central staff, athletes and organizational structure and gave financial support. Team Central moved to its own site within Team Central Gymnastics Academy, a 22,000 square foot facility in Maryland Heights. Over 100 select boys and girls train in the best facility in the Midwest. This non-profit program is designed to support itself with the help of parental, community, and corporate donations.

2001 In 2000, we closed the doors of Olympiad South location. However, September of 2001 saw further development when Olympiad Festus opened its doors to help serve the Twin Cities/Jefferson County area. The gym is housed in the historical armory building and provides opportunities in gymnastics as well as dance.

2008 A long time vision was realized in 2008 when Olympiad Mid Rivers opened at a completely renovated 20,000 square foot space. Initially, the Spirit Elite classes and squads from Chesterfield and Olde Towne converged to form a distinguished cheer program and the gymnastics program from Olde Towne moved to the new location in the fall. With a viewing bridge, several trampolines, two full cheer floors, the best preschool area in St. Louis and full sets of gymnastics equipment the gym is an impressive showcase in St. Peters. Olympiad Festus added a Dance program entitled Dance Fever and opened with over 70 students. The Dance program entered its first Dance Competition and has grown rapidly.

2012 The new Olympiad/Team Central competitive team was founded and began to take shape. By creating a developmental program for younger athletes ages 4-6 that would be consistent at each gym; we are establishing a highly notable foundation and then athletes are provided an opportunity for every child through a highly organized local competitive team, National Competitive Team and a state/regional competitive team.

2014 Olympiad reached a notable milestone in 2014, celebrating its 35 YEARS of being “Good for Kids”. Presently, over 150 employees at our six locations (Olympiad & Team Central) devote themselves to teaching children of all ages, gymnastics and other activities, as well as lessons of life. The mission of Olympiad – building happy, healthy and confident children is the foundation of Olympiad’s philosophy. Our students throughout the St. Louis Metro area continue to carry the positive impact of their Olympiad experience with them throughout their lives.

2015 An exciting program called Ninjas was introduced that combines gymnastics with strength training, obstacles course training, and tumbling and serve a new market of children ages 4-14. Highly qualified and certified instructors teach the programs.

2016 The Chesterfield location location doubled in size and added in-ground pits, 2 seperate viewing areas, new equipment and a new look. The team program exceeds 100 gymnasts, including Xcel bronze through platinum and J.O. levels 3 through 9.

2017 A year of growth: Three new profit centers were added to our company including a Chesterfield franchise, My Gym, which markets to younger children, a one-of-a-kind training center called Ninja City located adjacent to our Manchester location and a full 9,100 square foot facility in Rock Hill between Kirkwood and Webster Groves. Classes, parties and special events are available at all three facilities.

2018 A year of change: OLYMPIAD GYMNASTICS officially changed its name to OLYMPIA in 2017. In 2018, we are rebranding all nine locations to incorporate design features that are professional, kid-friendly, colorful, and welcoming. We temporarily discontinued our Spirit Elite squad program. Presently, over 200 employees (Olympia & Team Central) devote themselves to teaching children of all ages gymnastics and other activities, as well as lessons of life. The mission of Olympia - building happy, healthy, confident children - is the foundation of Olympia's philosophy. Our students, past and present, all over the St. Louis Metro area continue to carry the positive impact of their Olympia experience with them throughout their lives.

2019: We celebrate 40 YEARS OF "GOOD FOR KIDS"

2020: A year of challenge: Olympia begin the year with the opening of Olympia Ninja City Ellisville in Ellisville, MO. However in March we were forced to shut down our gyms due to the COVID-19 pandemic until June 2020. We reopened in June with summer camp and slowly opened up classes and team practices. We had a very successful summer with keeping the virus out of our gyms. Unfortunately, we had to shut the doors or our My Gym location in Chesterfield. We continue to rebuild our programs and classes even with restrictions on our occupancy.
