Olympia's History
A Legacy of Growth and Excellence Since 1979
Olympia began in 1979 with 16 students, one gym, and a belief that movement builds more than skills—it builds character. That spark grew quickly into a multi-location gymnastics powerhouse. By the early 1980s, Olympia had expanded across St. Louis, introduced its preschool and competitive team programs, and launched the region’s first cheerleading program.
In the '90s, growth continued with new locations, the founding of our nonprofit partner Team Central, and large-scale events like our annual Busch Stadium performance. Even major setbacks, like the 1993 Chesterfield flood, couldn’t slow us down—our community rallied, and Olympia came back stronger.
The 2000s brought modernization: a state-of-the-art facility in Mid Rivers, new programs like cheerleading and Dance Fever, and a competitive team partnership with Team Central. In 2015, Olympia launched Ninja—a high-energy, obstacle-based program that sparked a new era of growth.
By 2017 we had expanded into Rock Hill, re-branded as Olympia in 2018 (we're still looking for our "d"), opened a stand alone Ninja facility in Ellisville in 202, and continued to lead with innovation, even through the challenges of a global pandemic. We supported kids with E-learning programs and doubled down on our mission.
Today, with over 300 staff and more than 5,700 students each week, Olympia remains a trusted part of the St. Louis family landscape. Many of our former students now bring their own children to the gym—proof that our mission to build happy, healthy, confident kids stands the test of time.
